What the inspection can examine here

  • Siding, trim, flashing, grading and drainage — where water is being sent, and whether it is being sent at the house.
  • The roof, chimney and attic — how the roof was observed is stated in the report, as New York requires, and the attic is entered wherever a hatch allows.
  • The heating plant and any central air — operated in normal mode, dated from the data plate, with the flue and clearances looked at where accessible.
  • Radon — a separate, optional test arranged alongside the inspection.

Photographs from Syosset reports

Architectural shingle roof with a strip of newer brown shingles between grey shingles, outlined with red lines, next to a roof vent.
The second floor roof was repaired on the east side and the colours do not match. No recommendations — the repair cannot be seen from the ground.
Brick chimney top with two stainless rain caps, a cracked concrete cap and three red arrows pointing at the cracks.
The cement chimney cap is cracked and the seal is broken around the flue pipe; the chimney foundation is also cracked on the front side.

Both photographs are from Lou's own Syosset inspection reports, chosen because they show a building component and nothing that identifies a property or an owner.
